“(In)finitude: A Conversation with Time in the Age of AI”

From 4:00 p.m. on June 20 to 4:00 p.m. on June 21, at 49 Trần Hưng Đạo Street, Cửa Nam Ward, Hanoi, pianist Trang Trịnh will undertake a continuous 24-hour durational performance entitled “(In)finitude.” The event is free and open to the public.

As artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithmic systems become increasingly embedded in everyday life, their speed of information processing and instantaneous responsiveness are reshaping how we perceive the world. In the process, they risk diminishing our capacity for sustained attention and narrowing our contemplative lives.

The project emerges from reflections on a contemporary world driven by immediacy, alongside the persistent pursuit—and faith—in technological optimization.

Taking the form of a durational performance, “(In)finitude” resists the rapid pace of digital consumption. Instead, it creates a space for silence, repetition, and natural pauses. Presented during the summer solstice—the longest day of the year—the work treats the passage of 24 hours not merely as a measure of time, but as its artistic material.

Throughout the performance, Trang Trịnh will play the piano, rest, converse, and interact with audiences, invited artists, and generative AI. Rather than following a fixed script, the performance unfolds according to the artist’s physical and emotional state in real time.

According to the creative team, the work draws attention to deeply human values: vulnerability, memory, friendship, relationships, and the possibility of being present together in real time. Audiences are welcome to come, leave, and return at any point during the 24-hour performance, witnessing different states of music, time, and artistic presence.

The performance will also feature artists, collaborators, and companions who have accompanied Trang Trịnh throughout her artistic journey, including Nguyễn Thùy Dương, Phạm Diệu Hương, Phạm Mai Khanh, Marcus Mạnh Cường Vũ, Nhung Nguyễn, Đỗ Thị Thu Phượng, Trịnh Quyền, Park Sung Min, Nguyễn Đức Tú, Phạm Tuệ, and Đan Quế.
